Thanksgiving & Christmas?
So, today there is even a relatively short ausnamsweise blog. I am of frankly a bit of stress.
really hard to believe, but I've only university a week! Today, this week was my last seminar, there are holidays now (Thanksgiving) and then next week my last regular Uni-week. The first week of December, one must then appear almost only to the tests and final presentations. And then I'm done with my studies in America!!
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhh! This is really crazy! I can not believe it anyway!
Yes and next week I have to just 2 more essays to write for history, five English and prepare me also on my test! Sigh sigh ... I fear that is still fairly stressful: /
So why now is a short blog and then I'll get to the further study.
So ... Last week we were invited internationals from a church here in Portsmouth at a Thanksgiving dinner. Somehow I have not yet understood, why do they do that, but they have in any case where a lot of trouble!
had in a large community room of the parish They decorated tables autumn, there were even real plates (not just plastic, as so often here) and even a menu operations! So I was already almost anything was too much and I felt a little strange, but then as the food on the table, but then I felt quite well ;-)
us was in fact a typical American Thanksgiving dinner served with turkey, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes and more. And it tasted really delicious.
As we explained our driver then, were the women of the community probably cook all lunch in the kitchen in order for us. Really very nice.

And the food:)
Where the course is not all of the map. I selected only a few things, as it would otherwise have become a bit much!

On Thursday we went on with the same food ...
A professor here at Shawnee State University has taken me, Kathy and Kristen invited to his home for dinner. He was last semester with his family for six months in Ludwigsburg, where she teaches at the PH.
He was so over on Thursday evening and was picked up by us.
Mr. Meriwether speaks very good German, so we could talk during the drive initially to German to him.
Since his wife but only very German speaks little, we would spend the rest of the evening, also in English.
And we've talked very well indeed! Even as we drove into the yard of the professor, I knew that this family clearly belongs to the upper class. The house is really very nice, very cozy and very first look at the bookcase, it was clear that the family is very well made.
we were first conceived in the living room, where on the coffee table even small snacks waiting for us, also we were offered wine and otherwise everything was very grand. When eating is all put a napkin on his lap, which I obviously have not noticed again, and then only as at the end yet had the napkin on the table ... For lunch, there was D
chicken with rice and walnut sauce and a very tasty apple and cherry pie for dessert: Embarrassing.
And so it was that we finally were able to have that night after such a long time with Americans a really long, detailed and interesting conversation. Otherwise it is in fact often the case that the call is stagnating at a Small-talk level with Americans and you only rarely have serious issues, family, or even talking politics. But that was on this evening it was so much different and here one of the most interesting evenings I've been.
added at the end of the evening is Ms. Meriweather, a teacher at a high school, then invited us in two Weeks a day to spend with her at her school, which I'm very happy! I'm really looking forward to seeing how the school day runs at an American school Sun
On Friday night I will once again helped out in the soup kitchen and then we went to Jon in Walmart. Verena and I've diligently to bake Bretla and so we had to buy another lot of ingredients. But unfortunately this is easier said than done. I spent two hours in Walmart and beaten in the end I only found no Obladen and grated hazelnuts! Jon did me then at the end really suffering a bit because he had all the time with the cart running after me and so we had to just for now Bretla others decide not required to have hazelnuts as an ingredient.
(We have our way, ultimately, chocolat chocolate, coconut macaroons, butter-S and of course decided Ausstecherle)
The Saturday started with a leisurely brunch. With a heavy heart I opened the last awakening from Germany by my cousin and to gabs delicious organic jam from Verena's parents, scrambled eggs and many other delicious things.
I make the delicious German Kaba in my favorite cup:)
The tasty set table:)
Mhmmm ... delicious brunch
And the delicious organic Alarm by Bio-jam
evening we had Jon invited to a "game night". were in a common room of his church four Riessen screens set up facing in the dark boys sat and played shooting games ... So I really do not know why Jon thought that me and Verena might like this!
was played on a screen at least, rock star and I could try and Verena us on guitar and drums, and were not too bad actually ... However, we do not really stay long on the game night and are then better home for a cozy TV dinner to spend in bed.
And on Sunday we went finally wrong with our Christmas baking. Verena and I made our creative in the kitchen, Christmas songs from all of us Rolfs Zukowksi heard (from memory I can do all of the complete text), and have diligently baked Bretla.
Yammi: D make
chocolate Crossies
mhmmmmm ....
There is unfortunately an accident happened. When chocolate is melted water is falling into the bowl and then saw all the suffering this: (
But we have eaten anyway.

And for our coconut macaroons we had egg whites Sorry, we did not have a mixer and so we had to long forever marked by hand. As our moms can really be proud of us!

The masterpiece
Well, at least almost: D
The first coconut macaroons were a little too runny and so created then some little bulky large cakes ... : D
Yesterday evening, were James, Matt and Blake invited us and we cooked delicious Maggie sausages stew for the boys.
And once again we were out a property of Americans in mind. Punctuality! Matt
but actually managed a full hour to be late, knowing that we were all waiting hungrily at him.
And of course the German girls had already finished cooking all the food at 20.00 .... Well, next time we start at the top until all guests have arrived!
But despite the delay, the evening was still very funny. James sent us a new American card game taught settlers and was re-played.
The portion of sausage for the three guys and we
I cooking
Settlers of Catan ...
This evening then again to bake. Because tomorrow afternoon I go and Verena together with Jim to Columbus with his parents. They have invited us to his home on Thanksgiving and I am already totally excited to see how Thanksgiving is celebrated in proper Americans. But as far as I've noticed all the time is eaten only: D
Well, let's see. And do
as a gift We then bring just-baked German Bretla ...
why I do here now closing (the blog is always already become much longer than I thought) and you get a report next week how my Thanksgiving was, and what there was to eat everything ;-)
