Thanksgiving & Black Friday
As you all know, was last week Thanksgiving and Black Friday and I can tell you, I've rarely seen something crazy! No, to be exact, I've never experienced anything like the crazy Black Friday: D
But from the beginning ...
On Wednesday we went lunch bag and pack them after Westerville (behind Columbus) to Jim's family. Jim lives in a pleasant area in which it looks much like the series "Desperate Housewives", a real American suburban area. The house is decorated inside and very nice for me and Verena there was even an extra guest room.
After we arrived we were handed our first guest gifts. The Bretla came by the way very well and Jim's sister has asked us even after the Rezeopt because she is determined to bake for Christmas:) And we've all done it without scales and mixer!
was then ordered pizza for everyone and then spent the rest of the evening watching TV. Jim's little cousins were already there and also peppered me with questions about Germany and Verena: Did you also a McDonalds in Germany? Do you have Wendy's in Germany? Are there any Wiis in Germany? And so it went at least an hour: D Finally Dwaight then came to the conclusion that he could never live in Germany, because there were too few fast-food restaurants there and the bacon on the burger was too thin for him: D
The next day it was time. Thanksgiving. For weeks now the Americans talk of nothing else more. The food on Thanksgiving is highly praised and in stores piled up all sorts of articles about Thanksgiving - from oversized turkeys, about all sorts of dishes and of course pumpkin decoration. But ultimately I must say that I then a bit more of this highly praised day had expected. The day started initially with a Donought breakfast. On the table in the kitchen were three different varieties Donought (cinnamon, sugar and chocolate) and everyone just ran past the table, took a Donought and then ran on. So anything with a cozy breakfast together ... And for me, eh Donought were much too sweet, I can eat something early in the morning really is not and so I bit off of each one and then handed it on to Verena: D
looked after breakfast we then New York's Thanksgiving parade on television. This is a very large and ostentatious parade they must be considered part of the Thanksgiving tradition in America. march in the parade make many marching bands that march will not only straight, but really difficult formations. Really very impressive, and perhaps the time of the MVE should take as a model;)
also drove many trucks with big move, which funny people dressed down and waved any Stars karaoke songs warbled.
The Parade See
Jim's sweet little niece
streamed by little then more and more people into the house and when it comes to actually eating was about 30 relatives were there. Before the right food was my turn, but there was initially a variety of crackers with cheese and dips Surprisingly, even vegetables for dipping. Preferably by the Americans so much dip was used, it is impossible that anything could taste the vegetables: D
The "dinner" began at half past 3 o'clock noon and was of course from a typical American Thanksgivingdinner: an incredibly large turkey (about 10Kilo) , the turkey stuffing, mashed potatoes, corn, beans, pasta salad, pasta, stuffed eggs, sweet awakening, cranberries, and finally the biggest ham I've ever seen in my life ... But against our Expectations has not eaten together at a large table, as I know the family events, but each grabbed a paper plate, piled up a huge portion of food on your plate and sit down in front of one of the two television or even ate in the stand. Somehow I was really disappointed a bit and I think it's really a shame that even at a family party always runs the TV and you will not even for a dinner time. Especially since the mother for a long time in the kitchen! I had found a meal together at the dining table just fine.
The heavy on 10Kilo turkey
Part of Buffett's
Despite all, the food was really delicious and I would have liked more time taken helping, but I the Americans now know it a bit, I knew that I was still a very tasty and was pleased particularly sweet dessert. And that turned out. There were walnut and blueberry pie, and a veeeery creamy cake.
Here you see the big cake, which was of course itself was bought and not baked. On top of this was then decorated with sugar better delivery pictures ...
be honest I am not even dare to try a piece that just looked way too cute aus...
On Black Friday in America everything is reduced. And not just a little, but really reduced! And as we must have all been observed so now the Americans are so open about why drive to stores on Black Friday as early as 3 o'clock in the morning! And we were pioneers: D Something like one must not even be missed if you're ever in America.
was in the shops even then just go crazy! Everywhere, people! Tired and exhausted men dragged the pockets of their women, they ran through the store, grabbed everything they could lay their hands and in the shoe department, it looked like on the battlefield. And at 3 o'clock in the morning all!
When I then wanted to do and Verena us after our first very successful shopping trip to the pay, I could not believe my eyes. The snake was once completely through the entire store and then wound its way in the end even between the clothing change through. And to give you only an impression, the store was about as large as 3 Aldis. So first there was pending. And we did it for over an hour. But the wait has been worthwhile, as you will see.
Overall, we were on Black Friday then from morning to evening in order to 3.00Uhr 19.00 shopping. I still do not know how I survive could, but it was worth it. Here is my output:
2 winter jackets
2 pairs of winter shoes
2 Jeans
1 sports pants
2 pajamas
2 pairs of gloves
1 cap
1 pair of socks
1 Sunglasses
7 sweaters
4 Tops
5 Boot
So I'm happy: )
And here you can see how much we have saved! And the $ 380 we paid for 4 winter jackets, 4 pairs of winter shoes, 5 cases, 1 pair of gloves and sleep pants. So as you can really say anything!
My yield (which is missing here, or anything that I bought on Saturday)
And Verena:)
The luggage set. Originally cost $ by 200 and we paid less than 50 for it.
My new shoes:)
As you can imagine, we went on Friday night quickly to bed, but only on Saturday morning the same again to get started: D Actually, I wanted to still buy an external hard drive, but unfortunately this was already sold out and so we went just a consolation to another clothing store.
When we came back from our last shopping trip went to Jim, we spent the rest of the day with lunch and Football . Look
Football is really big a deal in America. The team is the way for Ohio Bucks and wearing a red jersey. And every time the Bucks have a game each in Ohio with a red garment. Jim's sister works at a fast food restaurant and even there is worn on game days, instead of the uniform of a red sweater Bucks! So really patriotic.
Overall, the Thanksgiving weekend was really nice. It was super delicious food, my shopping is incredible and yield Jim's family was really nice to us. The whole family is very funny, always do the laughter and nonsense and I really felt very comfortable. To leave us Jims Father then also invited back to stay with them, we should ever come back to America. And when I come back then in any case to a Black Friday:)

Review: Michelangelo Georgia Illetschko
.
We read of his skill as a painter. One can admire his famous fresco of the Sistine Chapel image of a whole. On a single image (see cover) floats God the Father, carried by angels and by the windgeblähten World cloak behind begin to approach and brought Adam to life.
This art book by Georgia Illetschko deals with the Italian sculptor, painter, architect and poet Michelangelo Buonarroti (6 1475-18.2.1475 3rd). The richly illustrated book is not intended as artistic reaction to the Renaissance artist, but the author is about human beings and their individual views on his work back to his environment and his time in the forefront of their considerations.
Before you get to the content directory, you can deepen over many pages, first in sentences and also two poems by the great master, and various Depictions of individual works of delight. In these figures, there are also two detailed views of his Mamorstatue of David by 1501/1504, which I included in my review and am completely fascinated by it the shapely buttocks David. This is pure eroticism.
Of the sentences that I have read the beginning of the book that touched me the most below. "The beauty depends on the final goal in the elements that adapt to their purpose or destination best seen the beauty shine forth most "(Michelangelo). For long I've been thinking about this sentence and have come to the conclusion that this sentence is accurate to the Point and brings not only for the stone to be built from a sculpture does.
The book is divided into:
Introduction:-Io, Michelangniolo Buonarreto
Sculpture: The art of taking away, Michelangelo and the stone
Painting and Graphics: "I'm not Amplatz, nor I am a painter .
Architecture: In the service of the Creator-Michelangelo as architect
biography and overview of works
site of important works of literature
register.
The extensive introduction begins with the last letter, Michelangelo wrote of the 89 years old. Despite its dwindling forces of the old man is still in clear consciousness and enjoys the good Marzolino cheese. We learn in the episode, that was for the artist
dynastic thinking is important. This is reflected in the correspondence include statements that he turned over the years for which the survival of the family decisive bride search of his nephew Leonardo, (see: p. 38).
Michelangelo seems at first glance a little pfennigfuchserisch, as evidenced by records. Illetschko contends, however, that there really is a touching to observe the small things "A love of life in secular Form "that can eventually still feel the joy of the earthly, as the high style of the 'official' poems and letters already almost only anguish, frustration and the world sang of longing for the beyond, (see: p. 39)
.
We learn further that there are few personal accounts that show the artist happy or even satisfied. To his nature to have a lifetime of whining, nagging, himself and his cause talk bad, too. The cause of which was a deeply superstitious purpose pessimism was by means of which he wanted to banish envy and the evil in which he had named it constantly (see: p. 40).
We learn that he from 1506 most of its fees in real estate, which are appeared to him as a safe and profitable investment, investing, which he managed with a tight hand. Although there were a lot of his family quarrels, he loved them, but more as an idea how to read on page 40. His family over he put his status-conscious detachment, a respected person of the day, while in the 1530s and 1540s meant that in the camaraderie of the men's friendships with fellow artists, poets and intellectuals, the philosophical depth as well as the plate-jokes crack, has felt very comfortable (see p. 41).
The author stresses, that the sour eccentric who was drawn by the contemporary biographer Ascanio, Condiv and Vasari, took up only one of Michelangelo's identities. It was, as mentioned already, a shield against its competitors. When he mutated from 1520 to the absolute rulers of the art, he does not fulfill any more orders, but from then on turned the grace of his art at will.
In the chapter that deals with sculpture, we learn at the outset that Michelangelo meant by what is happening and taking away the power of that which happens through
addition of that same painting. There are some in this chapter Sculptures shown and discussed, including his "David", which is characterized by ambition, size and certainty of victory, (see p. 73). For Michelangelo, the real work is already in the stone, and possibly lost nothing, if it is not completely exposed. The artist works in Unerbitterlichkeit into the individual stone and brings out the character of a piece.
about his skills as an architect you will also be informed very well. The first major architectural order Michelangelo turned 1515 the design of the facade of S. Lorenzo in Florence dar. 1546 he took over the supervision of St. Peter in Rome, which were only completed after his death. Impressed
me the double-sided image of the interior of the Medici Chapel, where Michelangelo worked from 1520 to 1534, but was still more the dome of St. Peter's, whose drummer zone the original drawings by Michelangelo.
The bibliography and overview of works is very clear and deserves praise.
This book I recommend to all those happy who want to not only learn about the work of Michelangelo, but also about the people.

Earthquake Of San Francisco Woofer
review: Albrecht Dürer Norbert Wolf
The book is divided into:
-Preface-Introduction
-teaching and years of travel
-The signature of the genius
-"... me how to freeze the sun "
-between duty and choice
masterpieces of the late years
-Theorist
- "From the glory of his art have met all the earth"

literature.
It is impossible for me all works of art that were photographed in the book to mention at this point. In the chapter "Teaching and wandering years include his parents, Albrecht Dürer and Barbara to see. His father was a goldsmith. Dürer was in 1485 in the goldsmith's workshop of his father. At his explicit request, he gave it to Michael 1486-68 Wohlgemut into teaching, which he portrayed in 1516. The image is shown on page 35. Dürer was technically in very Wohlgemut versatile form, not least the knowledge he acquired in the late Gothic form good. The young Nuremberg was made familiar with the Dutch art and learned the work of the most important in his time German engraver, Martin Schongauer know.
Easter 1490 went to the budding painter and graphic artist on tour. First goal of his trip was Colmar, where Schongauer lived. On his route there is no more accurate information, but we know that Basel was an important stop on his journey. Dürer left Basel in 1493. In Strasbourg, he has stayed on afterwards. Here also is a self-portrait (p.51) emerged, which I like very much.
In Nuremberg, he married in 1494 Agnes Frey, the daughter of the coppersmith, and musician Hans Frey. This did not prevent him, in the fall of that year to go to Italy. The outbreak of plague in Nuremberg said to have been the subject (see: p. 53). The topographical watercolors, it is possible to follow the route very well. In the book you have regarding this opportunity to see two views of Innsbruck learn.
Dürer learned to know the brothers Bellini in Venice, which became his role models in the sequence. When he finally was in Nuremberg, he opened his own workshop. I am thrilled that you Dürer's "The Great Lawn "several times in the book shows. On a double page can be this wonderful watercolor even look close and see how meticulous the artist is taken during times of grasses. All the shades of green leaves and delicate roots form from a piece of eternity.
The woodcut "Rhinocerus" from the year 1515 is incidentally also photographed on both sides. Very painted imaginative.
We read in the aftermath of the apocalypse. It is the earliest illustrated book that an artist designed at your own risk. Dürer chose the woodcut as a medium for biblical cycles and single sheets with religious, mythological and allegorical Subjects (see: S.81ff). Figuratively to understand: "The Holy Family with the spirit level" (p.82), "John saw the seven candlesticks" "The Martyrdom of John the Evangelist" (p.85) (p.87), "John before God the Father and the elders "(p.89)," The Horsemen of the Apocalypse "(p.91)," The opening of the fifth and sixth seal "(p.93)," four angels, the winds sojourning / The sealing of the elect "(p. 95), "The seven trumpet angels" (p.97), "The angel struggle" (p.99), "John, devouring the book / The strong angel" (p.101), "The sun woman and the seven-headed dragon" ( p.103), Michael's fight with the dragon "(p.105)," The Beast with the lamb horns "(p.107)," Canticle of the elect in heaven "/ Adoration of the Lamb (p.109)," The Babylonian woman "(p.111) and" The angel with the key to the Abyss "(S .113).
" What is the beauty, however, that I know nit." (Dürer)
Of the many art books I've read me this splendid volume by Norbert Wolf is most important. This is due to together, that's my favorite painter Albrecht Dürer and I by the beauty and quality of the book'm just overwhelmed. The book is protected by a fine slipcase. The cover shows Albrecht Durer's "Self-portrait in a fur coat," I had the opportunity to have a lot of time in Munich at the Alte Pinakothek to admire. Albrecht Dürer (21.05.1471-04.06.1528) was a handsome man with great artistic skills. The gifted German painter from Nuremberg was also a designer, engraver and art theorist, he was an intellectual painter and so therefore also be expected on many of his works of art.

is also interesting copper engraving "Four naked women" (p.121), I consider the Durer emphatic yes to physical love. The little copper engraving "The Witch" (p.123) is the ancient Venus turn into a "German" weather fury (see: p. 121)...
were Nonetheless Madonna on a large number of Dürer's paintings, the individual portrait won at the beginning and end of Dürer's creative life meaning, the painter sought the ideal beauty fathom since 1500 and lower. In Nuremberg, he acquired - already recognized and well off - the inherent right to the house of his late father in 1502 and 1509 the law of succession in the late "Dürer house."
Dürer was one of the "Humanist Round Table" and created works in close cooperation with the humanists for this.

He is said to have persistently searched for the ideal beauty, but said that it is not a mathematical formula should be understood as the only norm and maximum beauty, but as a criterion of a relative, conditioned beauty (see: 221 S). Finally, this relativity articulated in 26 types of proportion. Dürer wrote a textbook of Painting the Four Books on Human Proportion ", which came to market in 1527. Particulars given on pages 211 ff A year later he died.
The catalog of the resulting paintings (from p. 224) can be seen not only the images of Dürer's works such as "The Portrait of a Young Venetian Woman, 1505 (p. 251) enjoy, but also experiences and also to know about this plants. I regret that I can not go into the many-intensive works of art in the book. All deserve to be examined. Dürer is and remains for me the most important German painters. The book is a source of beauty that Dürer would have liked certain.
Highly recommended.

Thanksgiving & Christmas?
So, today there is even a relatively short ausnamsweise blog. I am of frankly a bit of stress.
really hard to believe, but I've only university a week! Today, this week was my last seminar, there are holidays now (Thanksgiving) and then next week my last regular Uni-week. The first week of December, one must then appear almost only to the tests and final presentations. And then I'm done with my studies in America!!
Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhh! This is really crazy! I can not believe it anyway!
Yes and next week I have to just 2 more essays to write for history, five English and prepare me also on my test! Sigh sigh ... I fear that is still fairly stressful: /
So why now is a short blog and then I'll get to the further study.
So ... Last week we were invited internationals from a church here in Portsmouth at a Thanksgiving dinner. Somehow I have not yet understood, why do they do that, but they have in any case where a lot of trouble!
had in a large community room of the parish They decorated tables autumn, there were even real plates (not just plastic, as so often here) and even a menu operations! So I was already almost anything was too much and I felt a little strange, but then as the food on the table, but then I felt quite well ;-)
us was in fact a typical American Thanksgiving dinner served with turkey, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes and more. And it tasted really delicious.
As we explained our driver then, were the women of the community probably cook all lunch in the kitchen in order for us. Really very nice.
The decorated table
The tasty Thanksgiving menu
And the food:)
Where the course is not all of the map. I selected only a few things, as it would otherwise have become a bit much!
Ali, Kristian and beyond, our operations
Kathy and Sara
We three girls
Our table
Kathy and her apple pie
And I had a pumpkin pie that was looooong delicious!
Roxi, Hamza, Gula, Angelina and Ali
On Thursday we went on with the same food ...
A professor here at Shawnee State University has taken me, Kathy and Kristen invited to his home for dinner. He was last semester with his family for six months in Ludwigsburg, where she teaches at the PH.
He was so over on Thursday evening and was picked up by us.
Mr. Meriwether speaks very good German, so we could talk during the drive initially to German to him.
Since his wife but only very German speaks little, we would spend the rest of the evening, also in English.
And we've talked very well indeed! Even as we drove into the yard of the professor, I knew that this family clearly belongs to the upper class. The house is really very nice, very cozy and very first look at the bookcase, it was clear that the family is very well made.
we were first conceived in the living room, where on the coffee table even small snacks waiting for us, also we were offered wine and otherwise everything was very grand. When eating is all put a napkin on his lap, which I obviously have not noticed again, and then only as at the end yet had the napkin on the table ... For lunch, there was D
chicken with rice and walnut sauce and a very tasty apple and cherry pie for dessert: Embarrassing.
And so it was that we finally were able to have that night after such a long time with Americans a really long, detailed and interesting conversation. Otherwise it is in fact often the case that the call is stagnating at a Small-talk level with Americans and you only rarely have serious issues, family, or even talking politics. But that was on this evening it was so much different and here one of the most interesting evenings I've been.
added at the end of the evening is Ms. Meriweather, a teacher at a high school, then invited us in two Weeks a day to spend with her at her school, which I'm very happy! I'm really looking forward to seeing how the school day runs at an American school Sun
On Friday night I will once again helped out in the soup kitchen and then we went to Jon in Walmart. Verena and I've diligently to bake Bretla and so we had to buy another lot of ingredients. But unfortunately this is easier said than done. I spent two hours in Walmart and beaten in the end I only found no Obladen and grated hazelnuts! Jon did me then at the end really suffering a bit because he had all the time with the cart running after me and so we had to just for now Bretla others decide not required to have hazelnuts as an ingredient.
(We have our way, ultimately, chocolat chocolate, coconut macaroons, butter-S and of course decided Ausstecherle)
The Saturday started with a leisurely brunch. With a heavy heart I opened the last awakening from Germany by my cousin and to gabs delicious organic jam from Verena's parents, scrambled eggs and many other delicious things.
I make the delicious German Kaba in my favorite cup:)
The tasty set table:)

evening we had Jon invited to a "game night". were in a common room of his church four Riessen screens set up facing in the dark boys sat and played shooting games ... So I really do not know why Jon thought that me and Verena might like this!
was played on a screen at least, rock star and I could try and Verena us on guitar and drums, and were not too bad actually ... However, we do not really stay long on the game night and are then better home for a cozy TV dinner to spend in bed.
And on Sunday we went finally wrong with our Christmas baking. Verena and I made our creative in the kitchen, Christmas songs from all of us Rolfs Zukowksi heard (from memory I can do all of the complete text), and have diligently baked Bretla.

Yesterday evening, were James, Matt and Blake invited us and we cooked delicious Maggie sausages stew for the boys.
And once again we were out a property of Americans in mind. Punctuality! Matt
but actually managed a full hour to be late, knowing that we were all waiting hungrily at him.
And of course the German girls had already finished cooking all the food at 20.00 .... Well, next time we start at the top until all guests have arrived!
But despite the delay, the evening was still very funny. James sent us a new American card game taught settlers and was re-played.
The portion of sausage for the three guys and we

Settlers of Catan ...
This evening then again to bake. Because tomorrow afternoon I go and Verena together with Jim to Columbus with his parents. They have invited us to his home on Thanksgiving and I am already totally excited to see how Thanksgiving is celebrated in proper Americans. But as far as I've noticed all the time is eaten only: D
Well, let's see. And do
as a gift We then bring just-baked German Bretla ...
why I do here now closing (the blog is always already become much longer than I thought) and you get a report next week how my Thanksgiving was, and what there was to eat everything ;-)
